Regional Office Lighting Designed for Employee Comfort and Collaboration

Canadian engineering firm CIMA+ relocated its Ottawa regional office. Since the old space was spread over multiple floors, the company's primary goal was to unite the team in one unifying, dynamic environment. It also hoped to encourage employees to return to the office post-Covid while enticing potential new teammates. Local firm 4té inc. was hired to design the new 13,000 sq. ft. office space in Ottawa’s Gloucester neighborhood, and the result is professional yet inviting.

DOE Launches Final Phase of L-Prize Lighting Competition on Manufacturing and Installation

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today launched the third and final phase of its Lighting Prize (L-Prize®) competition, a DOE American-Made Challenge designed to spur groundbreaking innovation, local manufacturing, and the benefits of an inclusive, clean-energy economy for next-generation lighting in commercial buildings. Phase 3, called Manufacturing & Installation (M&I), will unfold over 16 months and reward production and installation of products that meet L-Prize technical requirements in real-world buildings.

March 2024 NEMA Electroindustry Business Confidence Index

In February just over half (54%) of panel members reported “unchanged” conditions. That number increased to 67 percent in March. The increase of respondents reporting “unchanged” conditions led to a decrease in the current conditions component to 53.5 points in March, down from the previous month’s 57.7. The member comments were mixed but focused on stability. Members mentioned stable conditions and no significant changes. Some comments noted mega projects continuing and quotations still at record levels, with the caveat that incoming orders have slowed due to excessive inventory levels.

Architectural Lighting Brings Together Past and Present at Historic Pasaje de la Revolucion

The Pasaje de la Revolución in Merida, Mexico, has seen many transformations over its storied history. Originally an annex between the Archbishop’s Palace and the Cathedral, it housed troops in the early 20th century. Eventually the space was opened up in 1916, creating a pedestrian walkway that continues today. Designed in a French architectural style, the Pasaje de la Revolución features two arches and a roof with an iron and glass structure. The roof collapsed in the 1940s and the passage came into disrepair.

NEMA Joins Lighting Industry Experts in Development of Product Category Rules for Luminaires

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced its sponsorship and participation in the Smart EPD Committee for the creation of Product Category Rules (PCR) specifically tailored for Luminaires. These rules are the building blocks for the development of product Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This committee will play a pivotal role in addressing the demand for environmental transparency and industry needs in this area. The goal is to create a North American PCR for luminaire products and to develop a regionalized PCR that is globally harmonized with industry standards.

LEDucation 2024 Concludes with Record Success and Ambitions for 2025

The LEDucation Trade Show and Conference, organized by the Designers Lighting Forum New York, wrapped 2024 with record-breaking attendance, welcoming more than 10,000 registrants from all aspects of the lighting industry. LEDucation celebrated its 18th year in New York City March 19–20 at the New York Hilton Midtown, becoming North America’s largest annual lighting industry event. With an expanded show floor, a record-high number of exhibitors, and an array of new features and networking opportunities, the show was the largest to date.
