More than 175 attendees gathered at the ninth annual DOE Solid-State Lighting Market Development Workshop, held November 12–13 in Detroit, to learn the latest on today's toughest LED lighting issues and to find out what's next on the horizon. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan kicked off the meeting, followed by Byron Auguste, Deputy Director of the White House National Economic Council, who lauded Detroit’s successful launch of an energy-efficient public lighting effort to transform the city.
The workshop offered a rich mix of perspectives and insights from a diverse group of participants ranging from utilities and energy efficiency organizations to manufacturers and specifiers. Attendees appreciated the plentiful networking opportunities, noted the “depth and diversity of knowledge” and “aha moments,” and provided useful feedback to help shape future conferences. The workshop was preceded by an evening bus tour of the city's Chrysler House and NextEnergy Center, showcasing both indoor and outdoor installations that included products from several Michigan-based manufacturers.
