3D Printing for Lighting Conference

February 14, 2023

The Lighting Research Center has initiated the first 3D Printing for Lighting Conference to explore additive manufacturing and 3D printing for the lighting industry. The goal of this conference is to bring forth new ideas and research in this growing field and to bring awareness of the possibilities that 3D printing holds for lighting.

We encourage all those with research relevant to the field to submit an abstract for presentation at the conference and publication in the conference proceedings. Details are available in the Call for Papers.

Why initiate this conference?

The primary reason for initiating this conference now is to help bring the concept of 3D printing for lighting component and system manufacturing to a larger audience who could benefit from this technology, as well as prompt new research that is needed to help transform 3D printing from a niche manufacturing activity to a full-scale manufacturing mode in the lighting industry.

What types of research would be of interest?

The conference committee is looking to bring together researchers in the areas of printing methods, materials, and machines with those in the areas of lighting technology, including thermal, mechanical, and optical components. We are seeking session papers on a variety of topics including: :

-Overview and the state-of-the-art for 3D printing for lighting

-Design and digital tools to support adoption of 3D printing

-Uses of 3D printing relevant to lighting

-Applications and cases studies

-Additional relevant topics

The Call for Papers is now open with abstracts due March 8, 2023. All details can be found at: https://spie.org/OP318.
