Ballast Sized UL924 Bypass/Shunt Relays For Emergency Lighting Applications

September 12, 2011

Functional Devices, Inc. is pleased to announce its continued innovation in the lighting industry with the introduction of its new family of Ballast Sized UL924 Emergency Bypass/Shunt Relays.  Ensuring the presence of emergency lighting in the event of a power failure, the company’s innovative family of relays incorporate breakthrough features which cost effectively deliver a new level of convenience and ease to the testing, installation, and use of fluorescent and HID emergency lighting systems.

Ideal for emergency lighting applications within a broad range of institutional and public settings such as schools, hospitals, and theaters, Ballast Sized UL924 Bypass/Shunt Relays offer a new level of control and convenience designed to enhance ease of installation, testing, and use by contractors, building professionals, inspectors, and end users.  Features include:

• Ease of Testing -- Through wireless RF circuitry specially built into the relay, building professionals and inspectors are now relieved of the burden of climbing up and down ladders or using other unwieldy means of accessing ceiling buttons to test emergency lights. They can simply walk through a building with a remote control fob (ESRT), press and hold it for a few seconds, and all dedicated emergency lights within a 50-foot range will light immediately for instant confirmation of their operability from ground level.

• Installation Into Existing Ballast Channel – Compact and low profile, Ballast Sized UL 924 Emergency Bypass/Shunt Relays can be conveniently installed directly into the ballast channel of an existing lighting layout, allowing building professionals to conveniently designate existing lights as emergency lights and avoid the unnecessary cost and labor associated with installing and maintaining separate or dedicated emergency lighting.

• Confirmation of Wiring Accuracy and Operability -- Illumination of either a red or yellow LED located on the face of the emergency shunt relay will indicate to a contractor or installer whether normal utility power or emergency power is active, conveniently ensuring during the installation process that the system has been wired properly and is operating correctly.

The eight new products within the company’s Ballast Sized UL924 Emergency Bypass/Shunt Relay family are available in 120V or 277V versions and are offered with or without an extra input for use with existing lights or for dedicated use and with or without the wireless RF feature.  Pre-wired and pre-packaged for convenience, the technology involves a powerful 10 Amp relay that can accommodate larger circuits and helps to fully meet 2011 National Electric Code (including Article 700.3 related to testing) as well as all UL standards.

Bringing its demonstrated expertise in relay technology to the field of emergency lighting, Functional Devices’ powerful new Ballast Sized UL924 Emergency Bypass/Shunt Relays offer the comprehensive benefits of simplicity, convenience, and cost effectiveness to a broad range of fluorescent and HID lighting applications and represent an innovative new standard in the critical field of emergency lighting.
