Con Edison Joins As Newest Lighting Research Center Partner

November 19, 2008

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center (LRC) welcomes Con Edison as the newest member of the LRC Partners Program, which is designed to coordinate the efforts of public and private organizations to advance lighting research, education, and technology.

Con Edison, a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, has served metropolitan New York, a dynamic and demanding marketplace, for more than 180 years.

Con Edison will enhance customer offerings through new, sustainable lighting technologies and applications developed and demonstrated through its LRC Partnership.

Con Edison has a long history with the LRC that includes funding specific lighting and energy projects, education seminars and demonstrations, according to LRC Director Mark Rea, Ph.D. “We are honored to have Con Edison make this formal commitment to the LRC, and it seems fitting that it comes at a time when the LRC is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a research and education center devoted to lighting,” said Rea.

Through the Partners Program, the LRC develops customized research and education programs that meet Partner needs while advancing the effective use of light for society and the environment.

“Con Edison is proud to grow our relationship with the LRC and expand our efforts to advance sustainable lighting solutions while helping to strengthen and build the region’s energy infrastructure,” said Peter Jacobson, a lighting specialist with Con Edison.

In addition to Con Edison, current LRC partners include AES Latin America; California Energy Commission; GE Lighting; Hunter Fan; New York State Energy Research & Development Authority; OSRAM SYLVANIA, Inc.; Philips Lighting; Philips Professional Luminaires North America; United States Environmental Protection Agency; Watt Stopper/Legrand; and Xcel Energy.
