Cooper Lighting Recognized As A 2012 Best Practices Awards Winner

July 24, 2012

Cooper Lighting, an industry leader committed to delivering innovative products and driving transformational technology in the lighting industry, has been named a 2012 Best Practices Awards Winner in the Enterprise Data Management Strategies category by The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), the premier provider of in-depth, high-quality education and training in business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing (DW). Cooper Lighting is being honored for its enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) strategy, under which it consolidated and organized product and ordering data for its 23 company brands. The MDM initiative allows customers to have access to the most up-to-date and accurate product information as quickly as possible for use in multiple applications.

Working with solutions sponsors Stibo Systems and ActionTek Incorporated, Cooper utilized Stibo’s STEP master data management application to successfully organize approximately 2,500 product families, including 1.4 million pieces of textual, numeric, image, ordering, line art and other data. The data directly drives multiple applications including the company’s website and print and electronic editions of Cooper’s Product Selection Guide. When data updates are made in STEP, they are directly reflected on the website after appropriate quality approvals. In addition, the MDM system facilitates digital product data for accurate specifications in such applications as BIM and supports the configuration of custom products.

“We are honored that the TDWI has recognized us with a Best Practices Award,” said Cooper Lighting President Mark Eubanks. “It is important that our customers have access to the most up-to-date product data as quickly as possible and our new innovative Master Data Management strategy is a key part of making that happen.”

“We congratulate Cooper Lighting on receiving this prestigious award and for achieving such impressive results from its Master Data Management efforts," said Andreas Lorenzen, President of Stibo Systems. "We are pleased that Stibo Systems delivers Cooper Lighting’s diverse stakeholder groups the technical specifications they need to efficiently construct the best lighting projects.”

TDWI's Best Practices Awards program is designed to identify and honor companies that have demonstrated excellence in developing, deploying, and maintaining BI and DW applications. Companies from diverse industries and sponsoring solution providers submitted entries that were judged in a variety of categories. The nominated solutions were evaluated based on business impact, maturity, innovation and relevance.

The Best Practices Awards winners will be honored at the TDWI World Conference in San Diego, which will take place July 29 - August 3, 2012, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego Hotel.
