ELP LED Luminaire Is Accepted By The 2014 IES Annual Progress Report

November 10, 2014

Engineered Lighting Products, offering the largest selection of specification grade, linear, wall wash lighting fixtures, is pleased to announce the acceptance of the new LED AK Series for the 2014 IES Progress Report. Products accepted for this prestigious annual report are recognized by the Illuminating Engineering Society as having a “unique and significant advancement to the art and science of lighting.”

Pittsburgh, PA November 2014 – The IES Progress Report Committee presents the 2014 Progress Report which will include Engineered Lighting Products new LED AK Series wall wash luminaires. Now in addition to high performance fluorescent lighting fixtures, specifiers have an LED version of the AK Series that out performs T-5 HO (High Output) lamps at lower power consumption and longer lamp life.

ELP offers the largest variety of linear, asymmetric wash fixtures in the lighting industry with over 13 families of products in over 700 styles and lamping options. Each family was designed for separate distinctive lighting applications and requirements. Designers are faced with numerous structural challenges when lighting a surface. i.e. Is it a standard wall, 20’ tall wall? Are you forced to place the fixture closer to the wall than preferred? Need a surface mount fixture, T-bar mount, adjustable? Each series offers various design solutions for Healthcare, Corridors, Display Walls, Schools, Cultural Centers, Commercial, Institutional, Office and Residential applications.

In addition to typical wall washing, four of these luminaire families are shallow enough to be mounted in a standard stud wall to wash the floor with light or indirectly illuminate the ceiling. The most popular of these four versatile families is the AK Series which can easily be spaced 6’ on center and yield light levels within a 4 to 1 ratio, top to bottom and across an 8’ high wall. Transforming the high performance fluorescent version to an equally impressive LED option proved to be a challenge.

“Since we are known for how well our fluorescent wall wash fixtures perform, we wanted to wait for LED technology to mature to be able to compete with current products.” states Lee Hedberg, Director of Engineering with Engineered Lighting Products. “We started working with the Osram/Sylvania distributed array, LED modules and were finally able to attain the results we required.” Utilizing an indirect optical system, rather than shielding the bright LEDs with a diffusing lens was key to reaching the desired performance requirements. Acceptance of the LED AK Series family by the IES Progress Report validates the multi-year effort.

ELP’s AK, AKTB and AKS Series luminaires with LED options provide very high lumen packages. Offered in 1’, 2’, 3’ and 4’ length versions, these fixtures deliver a powerful lumen package providing 2181, 4362, 6543 and 8723 fixture lumens respectively with an efficacy of 89.They are available for Gypsum, T-Bar and Surface/Pendent Mount installations. The formed, high purity aluminum reflector provides even, unscalloped illumination with no glare and the indirect optical design shields the LEDs from sight at any viewing angle. LEDs are 80+ CRI (90+ with 2700K) and rated up to 60,000 hours of life. They are available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K to suit any design.
