Growth In Halogen A-Line Lamp Index Accelerates During First Quarter
July 10, 2012
NEMA’s shipment index for halogen A-line lamps showed a continued acceleration in growth during Q1 2012 improving by 110 percent on year-over year basis (y/y). This increase was preceded by gains of 90 and 98 percent during Q3 and Q4 2011, respectively, as consumers increasingly selected alternative lamp options leading up to the implementation of the first phase of the new energy efficiency standards. Conversely, incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) declined during Q1 2012. Incandescent lamps reversed a three quarter run-up decreasing by 0.3 percent y/y. CFLs slid for the fifth consecutive quarter, dipping 1 percent y/y.
Halogen A-line lamps garnered a share of 2.8 percent, double their share during the same period last year. Incandescent lamps maintained their grip on the market, registering a share of 76.3 despite a decrease of 1 percentage point. Demand for CFLs waned slightly compared to a year ago resulting in a decline of 0.4 percentage points to a share of 20.9 percent.
