Kim Lighting Launches Environmental Initiative to Lower Energy Costs and Improve Sustainability

October 30, 2008

Kim Lighting, a leading manufacturer of outdoor architectural lighting, announced today its GreenWise(TM) initiative aimed at helping commercial building owners, specifiers and contractors reduce energy costs, address environmental concerns and improve sustainability without sacrificing productivity.

The program -- which is part of a multi-brand marketing initiative from Kim Lighting parent company Hubbell Lighting, Inc. -- demonstrates how reducing lighting energy consumption without sacrificing illumination can be affordably achieved.

According to management consultant FMI's 2008 U.S. Construction Overview, the three largest segments for non-residential green building construction are offices, education and healthcare, which will account for more than 80 percent of the total non-residential green construction in 2008. The GreenWise initiative will initially focus on lighting retrofits in these three market segments, as well as government and manufacturing/industrial/distribution.

"As lighting inside a commercial building gets updated with more environmentally practical solutions, so will the architectural lighting outside the building," said Bill Foley, vice president and general manager of Kim Lighting. "Outdoor lighting plays a significant role in the overall sustainability of a commercial building, and Kim Lighting provides a wealth of products and resources that enable commercial building owners to save energy while not only maintaining productivity but actually improving it."

Hubbell Lighting has deployed the GreenWise initiative across all its brands, including Kim Lighting, and aligned specific lighting products to target market segments. Hubbell has also produced a series of collateral materials, and launched a GreenWise micro-site ( http://www.hubbelllighting.com/greenwise/) to provide additional information on sustainable lighting and energy conservation.

All Kim Lighting products are produced with sustainable technologies that minimize impact on the environment, including the use of energy efficient lighting in its plants, eliminating heavy metals and VOCs and using recycled content in manufacturing processes.
