Latest Green Lighting Technologies on Display at ElectricTV.net
October 06, 2008
A showcase of innovative and cost- effective "green" alternatives to traditional lighting is among the features in the latest edition of ElectricTV.net. A joint production of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), ElectricTV.net is the only Web TV program dedicated to reporting the latest developments in the electrical construction and information systems industries.
"There are energy-saving lighting products and solutions out there today that will provide a very high return on investment," says Keith Ward, spokesman for enLIGHTen America, an initiative of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association aimed at reducing energy use and costs in America's 5 million commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. "Simply by upgrading to these new systems, building owners and managers can save from 30 to 50 percent off their lighting costs."
Among the green lighting solutions on display at this year's LightFAIR International in Las Vegas, Nevada, were LEDS, or light emitting diodes, which draw only 5-15% of the energy used by a normal incandescent light. NECA-IBEW teams are currently bringing these considerable savings to businesses nationwide, through their design and installation of LED lighting systems.
Also on this edition of ElectricTV.net are an interview with Alli Owens, the young racing phenom and driver of the ElectrifyingCareers.com car; a spotlight on "The Carolina Initiative," a joint NECA-IBEW program that's boosting market share; and a piece on Power*e Glass, a unique electrified solution to heat loss through windows.
