NEMA Launches Healthcare Facilities Council

September 17, 2020

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)  announced the establishment of its Healthcare Facilities Council (HFC) to help improve healthcare delivery environments while expanding market opportunities for manufacturers serving the healthcare facilities market. The HFC creates a forum for professionals to share knowledge and best practices in the area of healthcare delivery environments and execute projects that improve outcomes for the healthcare, electrical, and medical imaging industries.

“The healthcare industry is facing transformative changes driven by new technology adoption, consumer demographics, and regulation. The industry is also at the forefront of a global pandemic, pushing the limits of infrastructure and operations,” said NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff. “The creation of this Council allows NEMA Members and industry allies to identify and take advantage of trends, challenges, and opportunities within healthcare facilities.”

“NEMA and MITA Members have already started investigating healthcare facilities market trends such as cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and the impacts of COVID-19,” said NEMA Building Systems Division Industry Director Marc Neufcourt. “This Council provides an efficient structure whereby ideas can be shared, evaluated, and acted upon for the benefit of both our Members and the broader healthcare industry. I encourage any organization involved in the life cycle of healthcare facilities to join this Council and help us address the needs of the sector.”

“We have been serving our healthcare customers for the past 50 years, so when we heard about the creation of the Healthcare Facilities Council, we immediately jumped on board,” added Tim Kuck, CEO of Crest Healthcare. “There is no better time to stay abreast of the changes within the healthcare facilities market. COVID-19 has surely wreaked havoc within the industry, but it has also exposed opportunities for improvement. We are excited that NEMA has created a forum for us to explore these opportunities.”

“Our entire team is dedicated to improving facilities, so when we heard the call from NEMA to come together and provide focused support in the area of healthcare, we immediately answered,” said Daniel Finnegan, Manager Industry Affairs-North America at Siemens Smart Infrastructure USA. “The Council’s objectives are well aligned with our organizational strategy, and we are also excited about the perspective of contributing to better patient outcomes. The healthcare facilities market is complex, with several micro and macro trends that are in constant flux: microgrids, IoT, cybersecurity, to name a few. There is a growing need to track and influence these trends through targeted and precise actions. We feel there is no better place than NEMA to address this need.”

HFC membership is open to NEMA/MITA Members, trade associations operating within the healthcare space, healthcare facility owners, designers, engineers, and regulators for the healthcare industry. To join, contact Marc Neufcourt at [email protected].
