New White Paper Explores Energy Efficiency Options For Internet-Connected Devices

May 23, 2018

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published NEMA IOTP 1-2018 Standby Power of Connected Devices and the Internet of Things. This new white paper explores the conflict between limitations on what is commonly referred to as standby power and the potential services and benefits of connected devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

"This standard encourages a system-level approach be used when approaching energy efficiency requirements for connected devices," said Alex Boesenberg, Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs at NEMA. "Rather than treat standby power as a drain on the device or system, it should be afforded appropriate energy consumption allowances depending on the type of service provided by the connectivity."

NEMA IOTP 1-2018 is available as an electronic download at no cost on the NEMA website.
