Sentry Electric Provides Superior Performance With New ARA LED Reflector System
March 28, 2011
Sentry Electric, one of North America’s oldest and most knowledgeable manufacturers of outdoor lighting luminaires, introduces ARA, a unique, contoured LED reflector system that delivers superior light distribution. Luminaires utilizing ARA contribute a reduction in energy consumption plus overall maintenance, down time and costs associated with today’s sustainable initiatives. ARA systems are available in a range of color temperatures with a minimum of 50,000 hours of high CRI light, flattering to people, objects and structures. The ability to accurately control the light makes it ideal for street lighting, area lighting, and architectural applications.
The ARA LED Reflector System, utilizing Fortimo SLM LED technology from Philips, provides a litany of operational features including:
• A self-sensing and self-regulating thermal protection system that safeguards the electronic system components
• Factory programming of the lumen output in order to “tune” the luminaire’s performance and regulate the amount of consumed energy.
• Constant light output to maintain luminaire performance for the life of the components.
• Dimming utilizing standard 0 to 10V systems, step dimming, or DALI to provide energy savings.
• Remote monitoring, reporting and networking to reduce service costs.
For current installations of Sentry’s family of tulip-style luminaires, ARA retrofit kits are available. The ARA reflector system is modular in nature so that retrofitting can be accomplished in the field. This helps to contain costs and insures that streets, parks, public spaces and campuses remain illuminated during the retrofit process. President Shepard Kay expresses his enthusiasm for Sentry Electric’s new offering: “To be consistent with our history, we withheld our entry into the LED market until we developed a unique, superior product that would work with our time-honored and proposed designs. The ARA concept and design respond to our discriminating market’s need to combine classical luminaire styling with current LED technology. We are very satisfied with, and confident in ARA, knowing that we are aiding our current and prospective customers in their efforts to find sustainable solutions and lower their costs, without sacrificing their lighting experience in terms of aesthetics and performance.”
About the design, from the designer:
ARA is an indirect lighting system of superior optics, utilizing multiple LED board configurations to fit into Sentry’s wide range of luminaire models. “Controlling the angles at which the light strikes the contours of the ARA reflector enables a high degree of control over the light emitted by the luminaire. It took scores of calculations to develop the unique ARA contour, formed in aluminum, and we are very pleased with the results and level of control,” explains Sentry Electric’s product development engineer Leonid Aronov.
Sentry traditional and new systems have been installed at high profile locations in North America’s cities, parks, museums, hospitals, prisons, transportation facilities, roadways and universities, including Yale, Texas A&M, and Berkeley.
