Texas Rangers Enhance Fan Experience And Energy Efficiency At Globe Life Park
April 05, 2016
Power management company Eaton today announced that the Texas Rangers have installed its advanced light-emitting diode (LED) system at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The system features industry-leading control functions that will enhance the viewing experience for spectators while reducing energy use by as much as 60 percent. The Rangers play their first regular season game under the new Ephesus LED Lighting and Controls system tonight, April 5, against the Seattle Mariners.
“The Rangers are excited to collaborate with Eaton to bring this state-of-the-art technology to Globe Life Park,” said Rob Matwick, executive vice president, Business Operations for the Texas Rangers. “Reducing the fixture count and being more energy efficient represents significant advantages and we’re especially impressed with the improved field lighting for our players, fans and broadcast partners. The Rangers are thrilled to be among the early adopters of this new LED technology.”
The new solid-state lighting system features Ephesus Stadium Pro lights and a DMX control system that features several industry firsts. The system readily interfaces with many common lighting and theatrical devices and is expandable to allow the system to control and perform in harmony with other in-venue systems such as the scoreboard, ribbon boards and more. It’s also the only system available with full dimming from zero to 100 percent. Additionally, the touch screen controllers allow the event operations team to control dynamic lighting scenes and effects, as well as dimming and color temperature tuning from 4800 Kelvin (K) to 5600K, while maintaining specified illuminance levels on the playing surface.
The system is also the industry’s first with a self-contained fiber-optic communications network, which eliminates the risk of electronic interference while providing a self-healing redundant technology in the event of a disruption. Despite installing half the number of fixtures, Eaton’s Ephesus system offers optimal lighting that shines more uniformly on the playing surface, creating an improved stage for players and fans watching live and on high-definition television. The Ephesus LED solutions are easy to install, virtually maintenance-free for years and offer the lowest total operating costs compared to other traditional sports lighting systems.
“Since we installed the first solid-state lighting system in a North American sports arena, facility operators have come to understand that our digital lighting solutions create an enhanced stage for fans and performers,” said Mike Lorenz, president, Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting business. “We know that the Rangers fans, players, broadcasters and even their opponents will see the game better with our industry-leading digital lighting and control system.”
Eaton, the Texas Rangers and their broadcast partner Fox Sports Southwest conducted a test of the lighting at Globe Life Park following the installation. Click here to see highlights of this project.
This Ephesus solution continues in the tradition of innovation and deploying industry-first technologies in sports lighting systems, such as those first seen at the University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona Cardinals); the Canadian Tire Centre (Ottawa Senators); Bridgestone Arena (Nashville Predators) and many more. Additionally, Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, and U.S. Bank Stadium, the future home of the Minnesota Vikings, are both installing Eaton’s Ephesus systems during off-season.
