Three Of The Four Hockey Championship Venues Illuminated With Eaton's Advanced LED Lighting Syst
June 01, 2017
Power management company Eaton today announced that three of the four National Hockey League (NHL) and American Hockey League (AHL) venues hosting Stanley Cup and Calder Cup Championship games this month are equipped with its advanced LED sports lighting and controls system. Featuring industry-leading control functions, the Ephesus LED system gives facility operators unsurpassed control to enhance the viewing experience for spectators while reducing energy use by as much as 75 percent.
The three arenas, Bridgestone Arena, home of the Nashville Predators, Van Andel Arena, home of the Grand Rapid Griffins and the Syracuse Crunch’s home ice at the War Memorial Arena at The OnCenter are three of the 12 arenas in the two leagues with the Ephesus LED lighting solution. In 2012, the War Memorial Arena was the first arena in North America to be illuminated by LED lighting. Bridgestone Arena made the switch before the 2015-2016 season and Van Andel Arena installed the Eaton system this season.
Despite installing significantly fewer fixtures than the systems they replace, Eaton’s Ephesus light-emitting diode sports lighting product line provides optimal lighting that illuminates more uniformly on the playing surface and offers an improved stage for players and fans watching live and on high-definition television. The system is easy to install, requires little to no maintenance for years and offers the lowest total operating costs compared to other traditional sports lighting systems.
“Hockey arenas were one of the early adopters of LED lighting so we are not surprised that three-quarters of the teams making it to the finals in these two leagues play their home games under our LED lights,” said Mike Lorenz, president, Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting business. “Since we installed one of the first solid-state lighting systems in a North American sports arena, facility operators and team executives have come to understand that our digital lighting solutions offer a distinct advantage when compared to conventional LED lights in creating an enhanced stage for fans and performers.”
(Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, upgraded its lighting with Eaton’s LED system technology to improve the lighting performance, enable more sophisticated productions and save on operating costs. The venue, which is hosting the NHL’s Stanley Cup Final, is one of 12 hockey arenas in the NHL and AHL equipped with Eaton’s Ephesus advanced LED sports lighting and controls system.)
The Eaton solution continues the rapid acceptance of LED lighting at sports and entertainment venues of all sizes across North America. Hundreds of facilities have made the switch to Eaton’s LED sports lighting system including: University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona Cardinals); Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Dolphins); U.S. Bank Stadium (Minnesota Vikings); PNC Park (Pittsburgh Pirates); AmericanAirlines Arena (Miami Heat) and the historic Martinsville Speedway in Virginia -- the first NASCAR track with LED lighting.
