VOLT Launches New LED Lighting Calculators For Energy Consumption, Savings, And Payback Time
May 23, 2016
VOLT® Lighting, factory-direct manufacturer of landscape lighting systems, announced a new set of three online LED Energy Savings Calculators (created by VOLT’s lighting experts). The first computes the energy consumption of any lighting system. The second calculates the savings when an older system is replaced with new LEDs. The third calculator estimates payback time for an investment in LED replacements.
Steve Parrott, Communications Director, explains the usefulness of these new energy calculators, "Nearly all lighting consumers have some understanding of LED lights. They know that energy is saved, but have a difficult time estimating the extent of the savings. Accustomed to spending no more than a few dollars for an incandescent light bulb, they wonder if spending more than $10 for the LED replacement is worth it. This confusion delays their important transition to the more energy-efficient LED light sources. Our calculators make it easy for homeowners to see the benefits."
Using the calculators is a simple process. For example, a homeowner has a typical landscape lighting system and wonders if changing all the bulbs to LEDs would save money in the long run. This question requires use of the third calculator, “Payback Time & Savings on Energy & Maintenance”.
In this example, the existing system has 20 lights – all using 35-watt halogen lamps (700 watts total energy consumption). The LED replacement system uses 5-watt LEDs (100 watts total). After entering a few values, the homeowner finds that the new system would save over $500 per year. Also displayed, the payback time for the LED investment would be less than 2 years. This makes it clear that making the switch to LEDs is a wise decision.
Parrott also notes that professional designers and installers will use these calculators to create energy cost estimates. Including this information in their proposals helps them communicate the energy-savings of their proposed systems.
The VOLT Lighting calculators can be found in the VOLT website “How-to-Center”. This learning center contains numerous articles, tutorials, and videos meant to educate both consumers and professionals.
