WattStopper Contribution Helps Secure New UC Davis Arthur H. Rosenfeld Chair In Energy Efficiency
January 23, 2011
WattStopper’s $10,000 contribution has helped the University of California at Davis achieve the financial goal required to endow the new Arthur H. Rosenfeld Chair in Energy Efficiency. The endowment will be used to recognize and support an exceptional member of the energy efficiency faculty at UC Davis. The chair holder will promote the Energy Efficiency Center’s mission to accelerate the commercialization of energy-efficiency technologies, teach future leaders in energy efficiency, and conduct critical policy-supporting research.
“UC Davis research has substantially contributed to better solutions for energy efficiency, and I am pleased to support future work at the Energy Efficiency Center,” says WattStopper President Jerry Mix. “I’m also pleased that this endowment honors Art Rosenfeld, who has been instrumental in creating and shaping both California and US electric energy conservation efforts and policies,” Mix concludes.
Mr. Rosenfeld thanked Mix for his support, saying, “It’s permanently satisfying to see such an outpouring of support for the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center which is the first major university center established to promote the efficient use of energy.”
UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi said that the Rosenfeld Chair in Energy Efficiency will be a natural fit with the university’s broad commitment to sustainability leadership. “Our goal is to make this a sustainable second century for our campus while we continue our leadership in energy research and innovation, and the all-important step of commercialization,” Katehi said. “Dr. Rosenfeld’s work is an inspiration to us, and serves as an example of the transformative effect that is possible when science and public policy are linked.”
WattStopper also supports the work of UC Davis’ California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), an affiliated efficiency center, and in 2007 endowed a graduate fellowship to support a new Master of Science in Engineering program developed by UC Davis. The fellowship assists outstanding UC Davis students in the study and research of lighting controls as part of the Masters program, which is jointly administered by the departments of Design and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
